Building a character/persona within drama

One of the most enjoyable challenging but daunting prospects for any actor, and certainly those starting out is that of building the character and hopefully making it your own.

ofcourse you must also produce the character the director is looking for and one that fits the brief.

The hard task is removing your own self from that of your character.

Your character may be the polar opposite of your own persona, may have opinions or lifestyle not of your own - may be gay or straight - young or old - confident or shy - but somehow you must become that character and convince the audience he is you and you is he [or she].

Sometimes your own character can shine through too, but sometimes it should not. And that is what makes you an actor.
